Established in 1924, the Bahamas Humane Society addresses head-on the problem of stray animals and many other concerns.
It is affiliated with numerous international animal welfare agencies, including Humane Society International, and it is the only organization in the Caribbean to hold membership in the Standards of Excellence Program sponsored by the American Humane Association, which it has belonged to since 1981.
Though it is based in Nassau, Paradise Island, it works with sister organizations on other islands. It is the oldest charity in the Bahamas.

Hello, I have no way of calling, but i was just on a walk in cable beach and I say a Maccaw bird that was blue and yellow sitting on a lamp post. I am assuming mabey it was someones pet as it looked scared. It was on a lamp post in cable beach across the street from the Dominos and Burger King complex. Hope this helps. This was around 3:30
My name is Tamara Pennerman and I am in completion of my first year as a student of the University of the West Indies-St. Augustine Campus, and I was wondering if your establishment provides summer job opportunites? I spoke with someone from BAARK Bahamas and she recommended that I contact The Bahamas Humane Society through either Mr. Percy Grant or Mr. Stephen Turnquest. Can you kindly assist me in meeting the requirements necessary since I too was a former volunteer during my tenure at the College of the Bahamas? The exposure I received as a volunteer was beneficial to me then. I was prematurely exposed to the fundamentals of clinical examination, evaluation, and care provision as it pertains to animals, and it enabled me to select my course of further study.

as i side note I was also heavily involved in the 2004-2005 planning for the bahamar cable beach project which i understand recently secured funding and a construction team….congradulations to Nassua…… Sarkis has worked hard to bring that deal together ..

Hi! My name is Monice Tai and I’m a pre-teen, I always wanted to be a veternairan and I still do to this day . What appauls me is that Bahamas Humane Society says that they pick up strays from the streets , but they don’t. Alot of animals are getting run over and abused by careless Bahamians . I’ve adopted a few animals from Bahamas Humane Society and strays from the streets , every stray that comes into our yard we take care of it and we bring it to Bahamas Humane Society for some treatments and to get spayed or neutered. Please, if you want to stop seeing dogs , getting abused , injured than pick them up and adopt them we all need to spayed or neuter dogs . They need food , water,espicaly love.
